OK folks, as requested, let's see what you think about marching as a Dept.

I will give my reasons why we should NOT march as a fire department at the next 2 county conventions:
The 2006 parade is in Pine Grove. Schuylkill Haven Fire Dept. is 2nd due on most of Pine Grove's run cards plus their FAST team right away for working structures. Enough said there.
The 2007 parade is in Valley View. See reason #1
If it was in Chendo or Girardville I possibly would be in favor of it.
How bout possibly trying it at the 2006 6-County parade in Nanticoke? We would kick ass up there. Marching unit wise and Apparatus wise.

firedispt71, good point... the "south / north of the mountain" has it merits.
I guess, in reality, we can talk about it all we want on here, but we'll never find out one way or the other unless it's brought up at a Dept. meeting, taken back to each company and voted on.
Let's see what happens.

Firedisp71, I know what you are saying......but is a 12" piece of plastic that important? Isn't it about getting together and having a good time? We don't win, who cares. Enjoy the day, have a drink with your brothers and sisters in the fire service. Win or lose, we're still going to be MCFD, in my opinion one of the best.

cap454...i don't care about the trophy, maybe 10 years ago it would have mattered. I would just like to see a trial run such as 6-County to work out any logistical problems that might come up. I would not care win or lose, but I know some would. I witnessed it l both last year and this year when after trophies there were almost fistacuffs between our dept and another. It was only a FEW select individuals, but like the saying goes "One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch". Granted each company has a few idiots, mine, yours, etc...and I would not want to see a tremendous effort ruined by a few minutes of stupidity.
I do agree with you that the dept has come along way in the 23 years I have been active. I was one of the 2 from WE who pulled the 1st line off 454 at the Market st. fire and anything else I needed I got within mintues. I know 20 years ago that would have never happened. All 5 stations did work as one dept which is how it should be. There was no yelling, cursing, etc..
We have made great strides as far as getting along as a dept on the fireground but we still have some ways to go after that.
