UPDATE...... Based on some new cascade models, modern technology and the size of our current system, it appears a total replacement will be needed instead of upgrading our current system. Is this just the salesman trying to sell a new system rather than upgrading? No. 1. In order to upgrade the compressor, the air lines have to be upgraded as well to handle the 6,000psi (our current air lines are rated for 5,000 psi). 2. The fill station needs to meet NFPA standards, so that means a new SCBA fill-box. 3. That leaves the Control Panel mounted on the wall which may become useless depending on what manufacturer is purchased.
Also, The point of my post was to inquire as to the funding availabilities to replace or upgrade the cascade system WITHOUT the Borough's help. Obviously, if we can afford it without their help, then we certainly can with their help.... plan for the worst, hope for the best.
Will the Borough pay for the entire system? I'll refer to philly's last post. Can they help pay for it? Yes, IF .... they choose to. Since the "cat is out of the bag" so to speak.... yes, I have quoted an insurance plan to the Borough for the fire apparatus that will save them money (and provide better coverage). I won't go into details here but I will be glad to discuss it with ANYONE - in person. Council has not received my quote with open arms - and I'll leave it at that on here.
Even if Council does switch insurance plans and saves money, that does not mean they'll have the money to simply write a check for $30 - $35K for a new cascade system. All that means is they'll save money in THIS YEAR'S BUDGET - the difference between what they're paying now for insurance and what they could be paying by switching insurance carriers.
Future budgets will obviously reflect less money being budgeted to the Fire Dept. because of the cost savings experienced in insurance. Again, if you really think the Borough will continue to BUDGET the same amount of money to the FD, please see philly's last post again. The realization is, If they save money somewhere in the budget, they'll most likely spend it somewhere else in the budget - like trying to fix Market Street, or a new police car, or health care.
Folks, as much as the Borough helps - either by their good graces or required by law (Work. Comp.), the fact is they're not going to add money to the Fire Department budget. Those of you who think they will are in for a very disappointing future and I'm very sorry to have to be the person to inform you of that.
So, again, please try to focus on trying to replace the cascade system WITHOUT the Borough's help. Sure, you can bet your paycheck we (The Dept.) will ask/beg them for help, but I'm not counting on it and I haven't included any funding from them in my plan. Again, if they help, it'll be like Christmas, but don't count on it.
